JetBlue Airways recently announced the launch of its inaugural flight to Costa Rica on November 1 and will continue to travel weekly from Logan International Airport (BOS) to Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR).

Named after a former Costa Rican president, Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport, situated in the province of Guanacaste, is the gateway to the internationally renowned beach resorts of the north Pacific coast.

Located in the northwestern corner of Costa Rica, the region presents a diverse geography and boasts many of Costa Rica’s most popular beaches and mountain terrain.

Visitors can challenge themselves with a surf lesson, cool off under a waterfall at Rincón de la Vieja National Park, explore the inlets and mangrove swamps of the southern side of the region, marvel at the arrival of the Ridley sea turtles at the Ostional Wildlife National Refuge or discover Barra Honda National Park, home to Costa Rica’s only underground caves.

As Costa Rica’s largest market, the United States accounts for more than 40 percent of Costa Rica’s international visitors and 56 percent of the international travelers arriving by air. From January to September of 2014, there were 783,193 U.S. visitors that arrived into the tropical destination.

American travelers stay an average of 10.4 nights and spend an average of $1,231.90 during their stay. Travelers from Boston make up roughly 2.5 percent of the U.S. target market with 440,000 college-educated residents with an annual income of over $75,000.

Flights depart Boston at 7 a.m. on Saturdays and arrive in Costa Rica at 11: 38 a.m., while return flights leave Costa Rica at 12:40 p.m. and arrive back in Boston at 7 p.m. JetBlue has also added more flights from New York to Liberia, Orlando to San Jose and Fort Lauderdale to San Jose.
