Malta has been voted as “The Best Island Resort” by travelers and tourists of the www.travel.ru travel website. Over ten thousand votes were given for nominees in various categories.
The award was recently conferred to the Malta Tourism Authority during an awards ceremony in Moscow. It was presented by the Chief Editor of Travel.Ru, Maria Puzankova.
The Travel.ru information portal is one of the most popular internet tourist resources in the Russian market (RuNet) and this was the 10th edition of the awards.
The award was conferred to the MTA in the presence of the Ambassador of Malta in Russia, Mr. Raymond Sarsero, the Maltese travel trade, Russian tour operators and members of the media.
Receiving the award, Mr. Joseph Galea, MTA’s Director of International Marketing highlighted the fact that the award is a tribute to the good work being done by the Maltese travel industry and the excellent synergy between MTA’s office in Russia, the Russian travel industry and the media. “In 2012 Malta achieved a remarkable 31% increase from the Russian market to reach the all-time high of almost 32,000 Russian tourists visiting our Islands. The Russian market registered the highest overall absolute increase in tourist numbers in 2012 from all the markets (plus 7,466 pax)”.
