The Malta Tourism Authority received the Highly Commended Award for Excellence in Destination Marketing during the Routes Europe event held recently in Budapest. This award was won as a result of the joint efforts the Authority carries out together with Malta Airport to ensure adequate seat capacity for the Maltese Islands.

MTA CEO Josef Formosa Gauci said “this award vindicates the hard work MTA and MIA have carried out to increase seat capacity which is one of the fundamental ingredients of the success our tourism industry is going through.”

Malta Airport CEO Markus Klaushofer said “it was a pleasure to once again work closely with MTA to continue to develop a very positive relationship with various airlines. I was honoured to be present with MTA when this award was announced”.

This year there are five new airlines that are starting scheduled operations to Malta, namely Turkish Airlines, Air Baltic, Monarch, Wizz Air and Transavia France. There will also be increased seat capacity from Air Malta and Lufthansa.
