Sun International will partner the City of Cape Town for the 14th Annual World Peace Summit taking place in the city of Cape Town for the first time in October 2014. The Table Bay Hotel will be the accommodation sponsor to the Nobel Peace Laureates during the summit.

The announcement was made on July 18 at a special press conference held at the City Hall officially launching the key themes of the summit. It will be held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from the October 13-15, 2014 and will be attended by Nobel Peace Laureates, high-profile leaders and organizations from around the globe.

The hosting laureates this year’s summit are former President Frederik Willem De Klerk, who became a laureate in 1993 for his work for the peaceful termination of the apartheid regime, and for laying the foundations for a new democratic South Africa, and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who was honoured with the Peace Prize in 1984 for his opposition to apartheid.

Local foundations that are involved in the co-ordination of the 2014 event include Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation, FW De Klerk Foundation, Luthuli Museum, and the Mandela Rhodes Foundation.

Rob Collins, Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer at Sun International says: “Sun International is proud to sponsor the 2014 World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates in Cape Town and be part of bringing to the fore the challenges faced by communities and countries where peace does not prevail.”

“The 2014 summit coincides with the Cape Town’s reign as the Design Capital of the World and the 20th anniversary of South Africa’s democracy. With the world’s eyes on this event, and on South Africa, during a pertinent year for the country, it is truly a privilege for Sun International to contribute to a successful summit.”

During the annual summit, the Norwegian Nobel Committee awards the Nobel Peace Prize to persons or organisations that have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.
