This August, Sun International’s The Falls Resort in Zambia celebrated its tenth anniversary. The Falls Resort was created in 2000 when Sun International purchased the complex on the precipice of Victoria Falls. With an initial investment of $46 million to renovate and develop the complex, Sun International executed the single largest private investment in tourism within Zambia.

In the first five years of The Falls Resort’s existence, it was estimated that 25% of people living in the community benefited from the new complex, resulting in an overall improvement in the infrastructure of the area and the ultimate stimulus for development of the Livingstone Airport. Today, Livingstone, Zambia is a world-class tourism destination in southern Africa and the Falls Resort is in very large part responsible for this success story.

The Falls Resort, which includes the five-star Virtuoso property The Royal Livingstone Hotel and the three-star Zambezi Sun, is credited with making Livingstone an ideal destination for travelers seeking an authentic and uniquely African experience. The resort also has more than 200 socially and environmentally responsible initiatives in place, ensuring that tourism to Livingstone continues to empower the community while helping to keep the natural beauty of Victoria Falls and the adjacent Mosi-oa-Tunya park intact for generations of visitors to come.

The Falls Resort lies on the banks of the Zambezi River in Zambia, a step away from Victoria Falls, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the seven natural wonders of the world. The property is the recipient of several awards for their groundbreaking CSR programs, ranging from anti-malaria and HIV/AIDS-awareness projects to vermiculture and conservation agriculture, while The Royal Livingstone is consistently recognized as one of the world’s best hotels.
