Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort, has announced the appointment of Tom Donovan as managing director of the 40-acre, beachfront resort destination on Maui. Donovan joins Grand Wailea at a new phase of growth with its new owner, the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (GIC), committed to investing financial resources to maintain Grand Wailea’s position as one of the top island resorts in the world.

GIC acquired Grand Wailea in March as a long-term investment and it is already devoting resources in capital improvement projects that will enhance the resort’s unique offerings. Hilton Worldwide continues to remain the management company of Grand Wailea through its luxury brand, Waldorf Astoria Hotels and Resorts.

“Tom is the clear choice to lead Grand Wailea. He is an engaging executive with great leadership skills, knowledge of operations, financial acumen and an advocate of the Hawaiian culture,” said Jerry Gibson, area vice president for Hilton Worldwide.

Donovan brings more than 20 years of leadership experience in the hospitality industry recently serving as the vice president and general manager of the The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua where he led the 463-room hotel’s $167 million renovation.

Prior to The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua, he served as general manager for The Ritz-Carlton Resort, Bachelor Gulch in Edwards, CO, and The Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Phoenix, AZ.
