Japan National Tourism Organization’s (JNTO) monthly statistics announced on July 23 reveal that the number of U.S. travelers to Japan in June was 87,900, which is the highest monthly number ever recorded.

The U.S. market has been sending a steady number of visitors to Japan in the past decade, including after the earthquake and tsunami in March 2011. In addition, April’s number was the highest ever recorded for visitors from the U.S, market, while this May reached the highest number of visitors recorded than any previous month of May. On top of that, the total number of U.S. visitor in the first half of 2014 has reached at 446,000, which is the highest among previous 6-month periods.

The U.S. visitors’ number has been recovering since the drop caused by the financial crisis in 2008. Because the overall international recovery rate has been very minimal, the consistent recovery in the number of US travelers to Japan is remarkable.

For further growth in Japan tourism in the U.S. toward the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the Japan National Tourism Organization is pushing Japan tourism with more unique experience such as high speed train travel and more regional food culture and historic sites from all over the country.
