Etéreo, Auberge Resorts Collection, a new luxury retreat in Riviera Maya’s Kanai destination, has announced David Arraya as General Manager. A seasoned hospitality professional with over a decade of experience in the luxury hotel space, Arraya will oversee all operations for the oceanfront property that is anticipated to open in late 2021.

“We are proud to appoint David to lead the opening of Etéreo,” said Craig Reid, president and chief executive officer, Auberge Resorts Collection. “David has outstanding experience opening luxury hotels, and he played an integral role in the recent and successful launch of Auberge’s first urban property. He is a passionate leader and we are fortunate to have him spearhead the launch of this Riviera Maya gem.”

Prior to joining Etéreo, Auberge Resorts Collection, Arraya served as General Manager for Hotel Jerome, Auberge Resorts Collection in Aspen, CO. He was also part of the opening team for Auberge’s first city hotel, Commodore Perry Estate, Auberge Resorts Collection, in Austin, TX. Previously, Arraya spent five years with Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts at the brand’s properties in Lana’i, HI and Austin, TX, where he was Resort Manager and Hotel Manager respectively. Arraya also served as General Manager of EAST Miami, the first hotel in the US for Swire Hotel which he helped open, and was part of the lauded re-opening team of The Pierre, A Taj Hotel in 2009.

“I am excited to help Auberge grow their international presence with the launch of Etéreo,” said Arraya. “I look forward to welcoming guests to this place of newfound renewal, that is unlike anything else in the world. The property will celebrate the vibrancy of Mexico, with one-of-a-kind guest experiences drawing from the Mayan culture, design, cuisine, and offerings that inspire connection.”

Nestled along the coastal area Kanai, a new luxury destination in Riviera Maya on an oceanfront site, Etéreo, the newest property in the Auberge Resorts Collection floats above a protected mangrove forest providing a unique experience of seclusion and reconnection with nature for guests. Featuring 75 contemporary guesthouses, an Auberge Spa and two dining venues, the resort is a collection of patinated coral stone structures designed with modern Mayan references and elevated to seemingly float like islands among fields of dense tropical vegetation.

Arraya was born and raised in La Paz, Bolivia. He speaks Spanish, English, French and Portuguese fluently, is an avid Manchester United fan, and a proud father of three. Arraya holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Business and Hospitality Management from Winthrop University in South Carolina.
