Portugal continues to be one of Europe’s most sought out travel destinations for North American travelers. Below are some of the most anticipated hotel openings in the Porto & Northern Portugal region for 2024.

The Lince Santa Clara – Vila do Conde (pictured and coming soon)
The Lince Santa Clara, nestled in Vila do Conde, Portugal, blends over 700 years of history with modern luxury. Overlooking the River Ave, the sea, and Vila do Conde, it’s just 15 minutes from Porto’s international airport and 25 minutes from Porto city center. This Neoclassical heritage building features 87 elegant bedrooms and suites, including unique Mansard accommodations. It houses a fine dining restaurant led by a 2 Michelin Stars Chef, an additional restaurant serving traditional Portuguese cuisine, and a Sisley Paris Wellness Centre with an outdoor garden for serene experiences. Guests can also enjoy a 24-hour fitness center, two bars with signature cocktails, one by an outdoor infinity pool, and cultural spaces celebrating the building’s historical heritage.

MS Collection Mosteiro de Arouca – Arouca (coming soon)
The five-star hotel MS Collection Mosteiro de Arouca will be built in the south wing of the building. Dating back to the 10th century, it is one of the most emblematic monasteries in Portuguese history. Surrounded by the village’s characteristic calm and nature, it offers unique conditions for a resort experience.

Azul Boutique Hotel – Vila Nova de Gaia
Located at the most beautiful point with breathtaking views over just about everything Porto and Gaia have to offer: the Douro, the wine cellars, the Ribeira, and the Luiz I Bridge.

The 4-star hotel already under construction will have a swimming pool, solarium, and restaurant facing the landscape of the hotel’s main focus, the Douro River and Ribeira of Porto. The hotel will have 64 rooms spread over six floors. Construction began in 2022 and is expected to be completed by the middle of 2024.

Light Human Hotel Porto – Porto
The project will accommodate 6.000 square meters of retail, restaurants, health, sports facilities, a Spa, and a Co-working Light Human Hotel Boutique with 112 room keys. Biomimicry and biodiversity are the central approaches of the project-oriented towards shaping an environment for its future users based on innovative technologies. These elements are reflected in all aspects of the project conception developed by Lucios Developer and Atelier Arcau.

Light Human Hotel Vila Real – Vila Real
The project will accommodate 7.500 square meters of retail, restaurants, health, sports facilities, a Spa, and a Co-working Light Human Hotel Boutique with 126 room keys. Biomimicry and biodiversity are the central approaches of the project towards shaping an environment for its future users based on innovative technologies. These elements are reflected in all aspects of the project conception developed by Enthusiastic Target Developer and Atelier Arcau.

JAM Porto – Vila Nova de Gaia
The majestic Monastery of Serra do Pilar stands at the end of the famous Luiz bridge, built by Gustave Eiffel to unite Porto with Gaia. A hotel with 130 rooms for the JAM brand will be on adjacent virgin land and 45 housing units.

In addition to creating a magnificent building, the brand decided to include the city’s artistic scene by incorporating five artist workshops where creators of all disciplines can take up residence. A swimming pool and rooftop with spectacular views will complete the program. The rear of the plot will be dedicated to the construction of passive housing units, which will either be rented or sold.

The Riverview, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel – Vila Nova de Gaia
The Hotel’s location is absolutely stunning. With a truly panoramic view over Porto’s UNESCO Heritage site and the river separating Porto from Gaia, the sunsets become moments of complete admiration. The Riverview, a Tribute Portfolio 4* hotel offers its guests 70 elegant rooms and suites, a pool, and a bar where guests can enjoy local cuisine.

The Vinea Collection Hotel – Monção
Located in the Alto Minho wine region, at the gates of the Peneda-Gerês National Park, in the municipality of Monção, is The Vinea Collection Hotel, in the historic Quinta da Porteleira, an 18th-century manor house in the Vinho Verde region.

Set in a unique and singular landscape, Piamonte Hotels’ first five-star hotel has 67 rooms, a restaurant that pays homage to local cuisine, a British-inspired bar and The Vinea Panoramic Spa, with panoramic views over the mountains. As well as all the facilities of a five-star hotel, it will also have a shop where you can buy wines and delicacies from various local producers, as well as a lounge with a capacity for up to 160 people.

Altis Porto Hotel – Porto
The Altis Porto Hotel is a 20-million-euro investment in the five-star segment. It will have 95 rooms, seven of them suites, some overlooking the Douro River and others the gardens of the Palácio de Cristal.

Holiday Inn Express Porto – Boavista and Holiday Inn Braga – Porto and Braga
IHG Hotels & Resorts will open the 91-room Holiday Inn Express Porto-Boavista and the 114-room Holiday Inn Braga in 2024, in partnership with Soliteight Hotel Projects, S.A.

Gat Porto – Porto
The new Gat Rooms unit in Porto will be in the city centre. After the hotels in Lisbon, Porto has always been in the brand’s plans because it is a city with a lot of cultural and business activity and because of its growing demand.

Hotel Plaza Central – Braga
Scheduled to open at Easter 2024 with an investment of 16 million euros, this will be the Hoti Hoteis group’s second hotel in Braga. With a Portuguese touch in its design, decoration, and materials, the new hotel will have 108 rooms, a spa, an outdoor pool and an indoor pool, a restaurant, a bar, a cloister, and meeting rooms.

Fábrica and Arnaldo – Porto
The Israeli group Tamar, which opened Saboaria Porto in 2023, plans to open two new boutique hotels in Porto in the summer of 2024. “Fábrica” will be in a building a few meters from Avenida dos Aliados, where an old tobacco factory once stood. It will have six floors and a total of 44 rooms.

The second hotel will be built at the top of the Escadas dos Guindais and called “Arnaldo”. It will be named after Arnaldo Gama, a local novelist from the 19th century. It will be a hotel complex with 45 rooms, five studios, and other buildings, such as a concert hall and restaurant with a winter garden and a balcony overlooking the Douro River.

Meliá Guimarães – Guimarães
The former facilities of the Joalpi garage in Guimarães will be transformed into a four-star hotel run by the Meliá Hotels Group. The new hotel will have 129 rooms, and the architectural project will be the responsibility of the Pitágoras Group.
