As a wellness-forward resort, Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa is committed to providing guests spa and wellness offerings geared towards fostering balance, relaxation and rejuvenation. Strengthening their award-winning spa menu, Reiki sessions have been introduced as Hibiscus Spa’s newest holistic offering to guests seeking the latest wellness trends.

Led by licensed practitioner Nadine Tonnis, an Austrian native and swimming, fitness and yoga instructor who has lived on Grand Cayman for the last eight years, this wellness therapy incorporates applied gentle hand movements intended to guide the flow of healthy energy through the body. Sessions last around 50 minutes, and at Westin Grand Cayman, guests can opt to enjoy this energy healing treatment inside a private spa room or outdoors in a beach cabana setting.

“Reiki activates our inherent self-healing properties, which supports healing processes within the body such as wound healing after surgeries, fighting inflammations, and releasing chronic tensions. It also regenerates the nervous system, which supports all other body systems, explains Tonnis, who is also a yoga and fitness instructor at Thrive Fit on Grand Cayman, one of the few wellness centers on island offering private fitness classes and holistic treatments. “Our bodies are a complex holistic system, with the nervous system an essential connecting factor, therefore balancing the nervous system will strengthen the muscular system, enhance the function of the organs and activate the energy production of the cells.”

During a session, the guest will lie down while a therapist applies gentle touch over areas of the body to transfer energy. “Reiki works on an energetic, subconscious level therefore people often experience a deep meditative state throughout the session,” notes Tonnis.

Reiki therapy can help with the release of emotional blockages and is used in trauma healing and for the creation of self-awareness. It can help combat anxiety and stress and provide clarity in decision-making processes. Some clients, Tonnis comments, experience heightened senses (hearing, sight, senses), deeper sleep, and a changed perspective, after receiving Reiki.

“In addition to leading yoga, meditation and water fitness classes, Nadine’s Reiki talents and mindfulness teachings will be an added holistic benefit to our spa guests at Westin Grand Cayman,” said Yarlin Faurer, Hibiscus Spa’s director. “Prioritizing wellbeing and self-care continues to be a top focus on our guests’ minds, and our newest offering has received a warm welcome with many recipients noting physical, emotional and mental health benefits following just one session.”

Sessions are available by appointment and begin at $140 (+18% service charge) for 60 minutes.
