Since November 1st, Chile has lifted travel restrictions and non-resident travelers can now enter the country and explore its wonders while following a few rules and restrictions. Cascada Expediciones is now accepting bookings from all around the world, and the world’s first geodesic hotel EcoCamp Patagonia reopened in September for brand-new adventures in Torres del Paine National Park.

The situation of the COVID-19 pandemic improved a lot in Chile, with roughly 90% of the target population fully vaccinated against the virus. The state of emergency ended on September, 30th and Chile came back to a “new” normal. No cities are currently under lockdown in the country, and travel between regions is allowed.

You can enter Chile through one of the 3 international airports, including Santiago de Chile (Arturo Merino Benitez). To do so, you do need to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and prove it through mevacuno.gob.cl to obtain a mobility pass. Please be aware that validation could take up to 30 days, and you have to complete this not before 45 days before your arrival to Chile.

You must also get a “sanitary passport” while filling in a form through www.c19.cl/, to show a negative PCR test of maximum 72 hours before traveling, and to be covered against COVID with a minimum insurance cover of 30.000 USD. Finally, travelers will have to take another PCR test in Chile and await the result (which typically takes no more than 1-2 days) before being able to travel freely.

For 14 days after you enter the country, you will receive a follow-up form sent daily to your email. Timely completion is mandatory. If you are travelling with kids, please be aware that from 6 years old, they must have a complete vaccination program validated before entering Chile. If they are younger, they must remain in mandatory isolation for seven days. But things are changing! As of December 1, 2021, travelers with a full vaccination program and a booster dose (no more than 6 months) will be able to enter the country without doing a PCR upon arrival or any other mandatory quarantine. Children under 6 years of age can enter Chile without having to quarantine themselves as long as they have a negative PCR.

Cascada Expediciones applied strict health protocols and EcoCamp Patagonia has been recognized as a safe destination by the national board of tourism (SERNATUR) with its label “Confianza Turistica”. EcoCamp may just be the best place to practice social distancing into the wild while making new friends and making the best of your time in Patagonia.
