South African Airways (SAA), the national flag carrier of South Africa and Africa’s most awarded airline, South African Tourism, and the Regional Tourism Organization of Southern Africa (RETOSA) together with Zambia Tourism and Zimbabwe Tourism, hosted 50 North American travel specialists on an educational trip through Southern Africa, in September. The group went on a safari in South Africa, before discovering Cape Town and the Western Cape, Zambia and Zimbabwe. After a thorough selection process, travel specialists from the United States and Canada had the opportunity to discover Southern Africa while learning more about organizing travel to the region.

“As the leading carrier from North America to Southern Africa, one of our roles is to educate travel specialists on selling the region,” said Stroebel Bekker, Vice President Sales for South African Airways in North America. “They get to experience countries that are the ultimate combination of natural beauty, wildlife, culture, adventure, food and wine. It is always a pleasure for us to host travel specialists, which in turn, will help them to confidently sell these destinations to their clients, particularly now, since Southern Africa is so affordable for American travelers.”

South African Airways is the only carrier to offer daily nonstop service from New York – JFK to Johannesburg and nonstop service from Washington D.C. – Dulles to Dakar, Senegal, or Accra, Ghana, with continuing service to Johannesburg. From its hub in Johannesburg, SAA together with its regional partners SA Express, Airlink, and Mango offers easy, seamless connections to more than 65 destinations throughout Africa, including Cape Town, Durban, Kruger National Park, Livingstone, Maputo, Victoria Falls, Windhoek and Mauritius.
