On the heels of its seasonal reopening, Belmond La Samanna in St. Martin has confirmed the appointment of Michael Schoonewagen as the property’s newest General Manager.
“Michael’s luxury industry expertise and global perspective makes him an ideal fit to step into the role as General Manager of this legendary Belmond hotel,” said Ali Kasikci, Regional Managing Director for North America, Mexico, the Caribbean and Brazil.
Prior to his appointment at Belmond La Samanna, Schoonewagen spent nearly five years at the helm of the St. Regis Bora Bora and has a portfolio of experience including renowned properties in Monte Carlo, The Comoros, Mauritius, Moscow, St. Tropez, Monte Carlo and Madeira.
Schoonewagen studied hospitality at Switzerland’s Centre International De Glion, where he holds an MBA in Hotel and Tourism Management Studies.
