Park Hyatt opened its first beach resort project in China on February 1, 2015. The Park Hyatt Sanya Sunny Bay Resort in Hainan Island was designed by Belgian architect Jean-Michel Gathy of the design-consultancy firm Denniston International Architects & Planners.

The development comprises six standalone, arch-shaped buildings designed to allow chi to flow unhindered between ocean and mountains. Set amid lush landscaping and located next to the beautiful Nan Hu Lake, every building and internal space has been carefully considered to maximize guests’ enjoyment of the picturesque views. The six buildings are interlinked by wide walkways, furnished and decorated with paintings and sculptures to create multiple mise en scène, offering a tranquil, rarefied art-walk experience.

“This is an exceptional building and will be the most talked about Park Hyatt in the world. The project is dramatic, massive and really special. It is simply not just a small hotel on the beach but rather a major undertaking – architecturally it’s quite an exceptional statement”, comments Jean-Michel Gathy.

Designed to resemble a private mansion by the sea, the sophisticated, elegant interiors are residential in style with a subtle Chinese sensibility. As in private homes, the spaces are flexible and with only 207 rooms and villas across the 70,000 sq m (753,474 sq ft) property, guests can enjoy the luxury of privacy and space. Almost all the guestrooms enjoy breath-taking beach and ocean views from panoramic windows stretching from one side of the room to the other, further extended by perpendicular mirrored glass at one side, creating the impression of a 270-degree view.

Along with swimming in the private bay, travelers can choose from five swimming pools at Park Hyatt Sanya Sunny Bay Resort. There are eight main food and beverage venues including the Dining Room, Cellar, Pool House, Pool Bar, Bath House, Library, Terrace and Tea House, all of which follow the concept of rooms within a large residence.

Park Hyatt Sanya Sunny Bay Resort also aims to be the most desirable, upscale event venue in Hainan. With eight unique, residential-style venues ranging from 452 sq ft to 3,606 sq ft, all blessed with natural light, outdoor terraces and state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment and lighting, the events team is confident it can deliver successful, highly memorable occasions for all types of events.
