Giglio Travel has shared details on some new hotel taxes that have gone into effect in Italy.

Florence

Florence imposes an overnight city tax, which applies to all guests staying in Florence. This is payable directly to the hotels by the client. The fee is based on the star rating of the hotel and will be charged as follows: 1 star hotel: 1 Euro per person per night, 2 star hotel: 2 Euros per person per night, 3 star hotel: 3 Euros per person per night, 4 star hotel: 4 Euros per person per night, 5 star hotel: 5 Euros per person per night.

Rome

Rome imposes an overnight city tax which is payable directly to the hotel by the clients and is charged as follows: Per person per night and applies for the first 10 nights of a visitors stay, 4 & 5 Star hotels 3 Euros per person per night, 1, 2 & 3 star hotels 2 Euros per person per night.

Venice

A new tax is imposed to all overnight stays in Venice with the exception of
hostels, this must be paid directly to the hotel by the clients and is charged as follows:
1 Euro per person per night per star of the hotel (1 star = 1 Euro, 2 star = 2 Euro, 3 star = 3 Euro, 4 star = 4 Euro, 5 star = 5 Euro for Venice Island, Giudecca Island and San Clemente Island) Stays of up to 5 nights, from the 6th Night no charges will apply, pax under 9 years are free and from 10 to 16 years less 50%. Pax who are residents of Venice City are free from the tax.

Sorrento

Sorrento imposes a city tax which is payable directly to the hotel by the client and is per person per night, 1 Euros per person per night in 1 to 3 star hotels, 1.50 Euros per person per night in 4 star hotels, 2 Euros per person per night in 5 star hotels for all stays between 01st April and 31st October each year. There is no charge for children under the age of 17 and after the 7th night stay there is no charge.

Siena

Siena imposes a city tax, this is payable directly to the hotel by the pax and is charged as follows: 1 Euro per person per night for 1 to 4 star hotels and 3.00 Euros per person per night for 5 star hotels between the 01st November and 29th February. 2.00 Euros per person per night for 1 to 4 star hotels and 5.00 Euros per person per night for 5 star hotels between the 01st March and 31st October. Children under the age of 11 are exempt and charges apply only up to a maximum of 6 nights.
