Exclusive private vacation island Royal Belize has announced that it will support a one-of-a-kind fundraising event benefitting a variety of non-profit organizations focused on environmental initiatives.

The “Bid to Save the Earth” event, to be hosted by Christie’s Auction House on April 11, 2012, will draw many of the world’s top collectors, philanthropists, celebrities, and designers to Rockefeller Center for a live fantasy auction, a companion silent auction powered by charitybuzz.com that features artwork and unique luxury entertainment and travel experiences, and a live musical performance by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals.

Proceeds will benefit Oceana, an organization dedicated to protecting and preserving the world’s waters, including those of Belize. Thanks in part of Oceana’s work, in December 2010 Belize became one of the first countries to institute a complete and permanent ban on trawling in all waters, including those around the bespoke islet of  Royal Belize. Information regarding Oceana’s work in Belize may be found at www.oceana.org. Other beneficiaries of the Bid to Save the Earth auction include the Natural Resources Defense Council, Conservation International, and the Central Park Conservancy.
