FITUR, the International Tourism Trade Fair, will once again open the international trade fair calendar for the tourist industry, taking place between January 22-26, 2014 at FERIA DE MADRID. The 34th edition of this trade fair, which is organised by IFEMA, will continue to update its appeal, adapting to the industry’s needs and preparing all of the tools required for the tourist industry to take full advantage of this key business forum when implementing its strategies.

FRONTUR – The Spanish Border Survey of Inbound Tourism – has just announced that Spain welcomed some 26.1 million foreign tourists between January and June 2013, which represents an increase of 4% compared to the same period last year. These figures confirm the fact that Spain’s leading industry continues to register a strong and buoyant performance.

FITUR is progressing hand in hand with the tourist industry, implementing an entire series of tools that enable the show to promote innovation and sustainability, two key aspects that ensure the development of the tourist industry. These measures also help to provide a new impetus for the industry and boost its competitive appeal, with a view to achieving one of its great challenges, namely that of de-seasonalising tourism flows.

FITUR KNOW HOW & EXPORT is promoted by SEGITTUR and aimed at facilitating the most innovative solutions in integral tourism management and the export of tourism products abroad while FITURTECH showcases an entire array of technological ideas that can be applied to the field of tourism. There is also FITURGREEN with its solutions under the headings of energy saving and hotel and tourism management. T

Other sections that have been developed in recent years include FITUR LGBT, which focuses on a type of tourism that has witnessed some increasingly high levels of demand and which will coincide in 2014 with the staging in Spain of the International Congress of IGLA, International Gays and Lesbians Aquatics; WINE-BASED ACCOMMODATION, which focuses on the fast-growing wine tourism segment; and RECEPTIVO ESPAÑA (“Inbound Spain”).

Other forums that testify to FITUR’s pro-active approach and its close connections with the tourist industry include INVESTOUR Africa, an event organised in conjunction with the UNWTO and Casa África, which seeks to boost Spanish investment in African tourism projects, with a view to promoting a sustainable tourism model and a source of development for the Continent.

The trade fair will once again organize its FITUR Get-Aways, which enable exhibitors to promote their destinations and special offers over a period of two days, based on some highly attractive prices, targeting those visitors who would like to plan their holidays in advance or organize a quick break.
