The heads of Quintana Roo Tourism Board along with representatives from 14 hotels and Grupo Xcaret affirmed their commitment to tourism from the US market with an intensive four-day roadshow in New York, Philadelphia, Chicago and Dallas.

The program included informative presentations for travel agents, a media reception held in Manhattan, and one-on-one meetings with local travel industry and business leaders about current tourism initiatives in Cancun, Riviera Maya (Tulum, Playa del Carmen), Puerto Morelos, Isla Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, Holbox, Maya Ka’an, and Grand Costa Maya (Bacalar, Mahahual and Chetumal). The roadshow marks the first in-person events for Quintana Roo Tourism Board in the United States since the pandemic began and announced new airlift from the United States to the region.

Tourism dignitaries from Quintana Roo Tourism Board included CEO Dario Flota and Lizzie Cole, Executive Director of Promotion; along with Miguel Paredes, Executive Director of the Riviera Maya Hotel Association. Fourteen representatives from the destination’s hotels and attractions participated in the program to present the new products and experiences in the region including new hotel properties recently opened or scheduled to open this 2022.

In his remarks, Dario Flota stated, “We strengthen and continue to expand our destination footprint in the number 1 international market for the Mexican Caribbean: the United States of America. We’re happy to be closer to our customers and industry partners to highlight the experiences in each destination and to talk about the new products from our hotels and attractions to more than 300 travel agents in key source markets. Together with the increased airlift, we’re predicting a very successful summer season in what is,in fact, Mexico´s paradise where there is always something new for you to discover.”

Prior to the pandemic, 22.8 million visitors traveled to Quintana Roo in 2019, comprised of tourists, visitors and cruise ship passengers. During the lockdown years from 2020 to present, visits remained steady albeit reduced due to restrictions from key countries, reaching a total of 10.9 million in 2020 and 14.8 million in 2021.
The variety of incoming air connectivity from the US and across the globe promises an exciting summer season for tourism development in the Mexican Caribbean.

The Mexican Caribbean attracts visitors with its wealth of tourist destinations and attractions: turquoise sea, white sand beaches, tropical jungle, archaeological sites, cenotes, underwater caverns, islands, lagoons, and Mayan culture and history. The area features a world-class tourist infrastructure, a variety of lodging options, local and international gastronomic choices, and great air connectivity.

Cozumel Flights
New American Airlines service has begun to Cozumel from Miami. Flights from Los Angeles via United Airlines will arrive weekly beginning in May. This month, too, Air Canada resumes flights from Montreal to Quintana Roo, followed in June by Southwest Airlines to Cozumel from Denver with new flights from Austin. American also adds flights to Cozumel. Also in June, Sun Country Airlines resumes its Cozumel flight from Dallas.

Cancun Flights
This May, Frontier Airlines will launch flights to Cancun International from the Houston airports: William P. Hobby Airport with three flights a week and George Bush Intercontinental Airport with four flights a week. Frontier will also begin a route from Tampa to Cancun three times a week.

Chetumal Flights
Flights from Miami to Chetumal are currently in planning stages.
